CITAZIONE
Next week's finale is going to be bigger than anything you've seen on Smallville before, something of Armageddon-and-’24’-like seriousness. There’s also a touch of Tru Calling -- Clark envisions all of it in a nightmare that seems to be coming true, and he has to race against the clock to prevent it from happening. Oh yeah, and all this goes down during graduation day, so there’s a touch of Buffy, too.

CITAZIONE
Tom Welling talked about the whole Arctic location thing in E! Online's Watch With Kristin column. Here's what he had to say: "It's big. It's the biggest thing we've ever done. We just finished a sequence up in a glacier at Whistler. We had three helicopters and five snowmobiles. Basically, there were these mountains around us, and in the middle, there was a lot of snow. It was about 15 miles wide, absolutely huge, and they would literally bring us down in the helicopter, and the helicopter couldn't set down, so we had to hop out of the helicopter about seven or eight feet down into about four feet of snow and stand there, and the helicopter took off. Then a camera on another helicopter would come down and shoot us, and then we'd have to climb back on the helicopter. It was quite adventurous. I enjoyed it quite a bit. I hope we get to go back. By doing all that, we have some extraordinary shots for the season finale."

Entertainment Weekly On The Smallville Season 4 Finale
Here's what the latest issue of Entertainment Weekly had to say about the fourth season finale of Smallville, in their latest issue:

Smallville (May 18)
After four seasons, The WB's teenage Superman drama, which pulls in an average of 4.4 million viewers (compared with 5.9 million in 2002), is losing Nielsen strength. Exec producer Al Gough's plan: "Our biggest finale yet. A catastrophe strikes in the middle of high school graduation, propelling everyone into different directions." Also propelled is that sluggish Kryptonian-crystal story, plus an explanation for Lana's (Kristin Kreuk) tattoo. Hint: It doesn't involve a drunken night in Tijuana.

Another scene has surfaced from the season finale - a scene that may be the last scene of the season. In it, there's some kind of situation involving a burning truck where the driver leaps out of it, hitting the road and rolling. Clark sees the coming disaster as the now driverless truck heads toward an immovable line of cars, where a panicked father is looking for his child. Clark superspeeds to stop the truck, terrified to see a young boy wandering the road looking for his father. Clark sweeps the boy under his arm with one hand, and stops the truck in its tracks with the other, protecting the boy from the inevitable explosion. Clark's saved a life. His real work has yet to begin...

CITAZIONE
Teaser: A tech at Nasa Observatory base stares in horror at the radar screen. He says that he’s never seen anything like it and that “My God, It’s heading straight for Earth.”

Lana/Lex scene: Lex says "I'd be surprised if you weren't convicted". Lana feels like she's going to crumble so she asks him what she’s supposed to do. Lex says she needs to let him handle it and “That means you have to trust me”. Lana nods realizing she has no choice. He wants her to stay at the mansion until it’s all resolved. Lex knows Lana has the element in her purse as he says "Don't worry Lana. It's still there. I would never take it from you." A security guard interrupts their conversation. Lex leaves. Lana’s still got the stone element in her purse and it’s blood-stained.

Clark and Martha are in the Kent kitchen at night. Clark is still shaken from a bad dream he’s had and thinks it’s a warning. Martha gives him warm milk with honey.

Graduation ceremony takes place at their high school football field. Clark asks “Chloe, have you seen Lana yet?”. She says she’s worried too cause Lana’s never tardy. Clark then says “She’ll show up. She has to.” Clark gets his diploma as Martha and Jonathan clap and Lois does a t
wo-finger whistle.

The principal calls for “Lana Lang” to receive her diploma. Strangely, Lana is absent. Clark walks off and goes back stage but its empty and he’s got a worried look. Suddenly there are two military choppers and vehicles. The Colonel grabs the megaphone and tells the crowd “A meteor shower is predicted to hit Smallville and surrounding areas in approximately three hours.”

There's a Lex and Lionel conversation and they talk about Genevieve Teague and “Miss Lang” (Lionel always calls her that). Something about not failing.

Lex watches as Lionel’s body seizures from the green energy of the crystal. When he goes to help him, he is blown back. Later, Lex stares in awe at the glowing crystal as Lionel is unconscious. His security tells them they need to evacuate.

Chloe says “I don’t know, but I could swear that was Lex’s voice in the background. Lana sounds like she’s in trouble and there’s no way I’m going to abandon her.”

Chloe and Lois face two guards at a military roadblock who won’t let them pass. They think Lana might be trapped inside. Then Lois says “diversion is my middle name” and goes in a long rant about how the barricades look like lemonade stands and that they are speaking to the daughter of a General.

Clark is the in Caves and has a stone element (it’s got blood on it) in his hand. He puts it into the keyhole and it illuminates.

Lana and Lex are in the Luthorcorp chopper that’s still on the ground. Lex tells her "eventually you have to loosen your grip." Lana realizes she can’t cover anymore and tells him she doesn’t have it (the element). He says “Lies don’t become you, Lana” and she replies “It’s the truth. I don’t have it, Lex.” He doesn't believe her that she doesn't have the element stone. He's desperate and grabs her purse. Lana is shocked as he searches through its contents.  She’s disturbed by his actions and levels a look at him. She has some tough words for him. Later, ‘Lex leans in and kisses Lana on the forehead. Lana swallows , uneasy…’ The Pilot then states, “I can’t wait any longer Mr. Luthor.” The pilot is taking Lana somewhere and they are ready to fly.

Martha and Jonathan hear an explosion. A huge meteor shakes the house.

Lana is alone in the flying helicopter as the pilot tries to swerve to avoid the fiery air-raid of meteors. She's horrified as she looks out. Then a meteor slams into the tail of the aircraft. The pilot tries to land the wrecked craft as he desperately prays “Mother Mary full of grace, forgive me for my sins…”

CITAZIONE
The episode's teaser starts at a NASA observatory base, as a tech sees something that seems impossible - a meteor shower is headed straight for Earth! Oddly, this blip didn't even show up on the screen 10 minutes earlier!
- There's a military roadblock that Lois and Chloe are trying to get past. "Our friend could be inside," they tell the guardsman blocking it. They're told they can't pass. So, time for Plan B - distraction. Lois comes back and talks to the national guardsman about his bad protocol as far as positioning of the blockades and such. Chloe sneaks by as Lois carries on. Chloe nearly gets caught, but ends up scurrying into a field.
- As the graduates' names are called on the Smallville High football field during the graduation ceremony, one person is missing - Lana. "Lana's never so much as had a tardy," Chloe comments. "She'll show up. She has to."
- As Clark goes up to the stage to get his diploma, Jonathan and Martha look on proudly. Lois lets loose with a two-finger whistle.
- Lana Lang's name is called, and the whoosh of loud helicopters is overhead. It's a colonel in a helicopter telling all "non-essential personnel" that they need to evacuate the area in a 50 mile radius. "A meteor shower is predicted to hit Smallville and its surrounding areas in approximately three hours," he announces on a megaphone.
- There is a call made where Chloe says "I could swear that was Lex's voice in the background." It sounds like the call is from Lana. "Lana sounds like she's in trouble and there's no way I'm going to abandon her," Chloe says.
- At one point Lana is talking to Lex. "I'll be surprised if you weren't convicted," it appears that Lex says. "What am I going to do?" she asks. "You're going to let me handle it," he tells her. "That means you have to trust me, and do as I tell you. You’ll stay at the mansion and set off …get this resolved. Hopefully it won’t take long." Lana reaches for the element in her purse. "Don't worry, it's still there," he says. "I would never take it from you." (Thanks to Unbreakable Lex for figuring this bit out!)
- Convicted? We don't think Lana has anything to do with, say, Jason dying, but this nugget is interesting, to say the least.
- Lana ends up in a LuthorCorp chopper later in the story. Lana is telling Lex "I don't have it," which we're assuming is a reference to one of the elements. Lexana haters be warned - the scene ends Lex giving Lana a kiss on the forehead, which makes Lana swallow, uneasy. We think what happens is, Lana tells Lex she no longer has the element, that she has given it to Clark. Lex is frantic, sees the element is no longer in her purse, and then gives her the kiss on the forehead. (This scene takes place later than the previous scene with Lana and Lex. It could be that in between the two scenes Clark gets a hold of the element that Lana had in her purse; she's probably given it to him, like we've speculated.)
- Later, as Lana is in the chopper, meteors start falling from the sky, making the chopper swerve through the air. Sounds like another meteor shower is coming! A meteor slams into the tail of the chopper that has Lana in it, and it goes spinning. The rear stabilizer is obliterated.
- A huge meteor crashes into the Kent house, while Jonathan and Martha are in it.
- Lex enters the mansion to find Lionel sipping a scotch.
- Lionel has a seizure and it looks like veins of green energy crackle and branch from one of the crystals all over his body. This renders Lionel unconscious, and Lex has a security guard take Lionel away.
- The stone sends a frequency sound (probably the usual buzzing) to Clark right as Lionel passes out. (Thanks Melanie!)
- Clark is shaken, like he's got a migraine. He tells his mother that he can't help but think is some kind of a warning. Martha reassures him that it was just a bad dream.
- Clark goes to the caves with a blood-stained element, and puts it in the keyhole.
- Why is the element stained with blood? Jason is missing from anything we've seen. Could he have taken the element and then been killed earlier in the story? Again, speculation.
- Unbreakable Lex was able to gleam some new other stuff from the sides. Here's what he had to say, plug it in to the scenes above as appropriate: "It appears that Lana escapes before Chloe and Lois can help her. Lex thinks Lionel helped get Lana out and probably is hiding her, maybe flying her half way to Costa Rica. Some how or another Clark gets his hands on the air stone but Lionel or Lex has the fire stone. The fire stone is what causes the seizures to happen to Lionel. As that happens, Clark is in the caves with the air stone (the one that is blood stained). His ears start ringing in the caves when Lex picks up the stone with the fire tongs. Lex seems to think now that Lionel is helping him and Lex picks up the stone with the tongs and instruct his guards to take Lionel upstairs. Then it says Off Lex about to fulfill his destiny. Later Lex catches Lana and questions her about the stone. I think Lana gave it to Clark to hide and is covering for Clark but acting like she lost the stone to Lex. This causes Lex to act protecting like he is still trying to help her. So he puts her on the helicopter to evacuate her from the meteor shower."
